Tick tock... its almost time to close this chapter.
That's right, its time to wind up most affairs in this place and start meaning the goodbyes and thinking about that which awaits me in a few days. I don't think I am going to delete this blog; it wasn't a 100% miserable experience, I'd give it a 70% misery rating. There are some experiences and events for which I will forever value this place.
I wish I could say something meaningful and genuine that was eloquent and honest. But the truth is, I don't trust the blog's privacy anymore. There are some thoughts that should always be kept private - that you would never voice aloud, even to a complete stranger, which is what the blog means to me.
Why am I talking about something that I am not going to talk about? Because I'm such a tease! ;-) I guess I feel the need to say that I am not saying things and that while not everything said in this blog is untrue, not everything significant is mentioned either. Just like in life - people don't always mean what they say or say what they mean or say what they want or actually want what they say. And if that weren't long-winded enough, sometimes people realize that they are being untruthful in what they are saying and still say it and sometimes its the other way round.
I wonder how neurotic everyone is. I am guessing that my brain is more neurotic than average, but sometimes I think that I might be giving myself too much credit. All this white noise, verbal and otherwise - is it in just my head? I think not. My conversations with a lot of my friends leads me to believe that I am not alone in my confusion over that which is spoken and that which is not spoken.
Circles... concentric circles, that's how I envisage confusion/crises of the mind. Everything gets nested and once they start sitting into bigger containers, like the little Russian dolls, issues get further complicated even as they start getting parallelized and more intangible. Jesus Christ! I feel like I am writing a treatise on a mental breakdown. Also, I lost the point I was trying to make about a paragraph and half ago. (Its 12:24am and I am stressed and depressed - give me a break!)
I went to Sullivan's Island this Sunday. I have had the flu this past week and for about a day and half I thought I was going to die an unnoticed death. Its OK though, I drove myself to the grocery store and its true - what won't kill you will make you stronger. Anyway, back to Sullivan's Island - it was a singularly divine day at the beach and I don't think my words could ever do justice to the experience of the beach on that day. I spent about 3 hours walking and thought a myriad thoughts.
If only I could go back in time...

I don't know why I find these two articles so hilarious, but I cannot stop laughing after I read either one of them. The articles also remind me of the Chinpokemon episode of South Park... Americans with their gargantuan ******... I guess there won't be any Japanese extolling the Indians with their *giggle giggle*
For shame!

this would happen to me!
A young man was hired by a supermarket and reported for his first day of work. The manager greeted him with a warm handshake and a smile, then gave him a broom and said,
"Son, your first job will be to sweep out the store."
"But I'm a college graduate," the young man replied indignantly.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realise that," said the manager. "Here, give me the broom -- I'll show you how."

aye caramba!

cruise control for life?
Let me lead with the good news, because generally I don't! I drove 800+ miles without incident!!! Of course it was a round trip, so that's 400 miles each way, roughly. On my way back, I discovered the many wonders and joys of cruise control!! What an absolutely wonderful feature! My limited cerebral capabilities tell me that it is an application of Systems and Controls, however, not being a graduate student in the subject yet, I may be completely off-base.
Its 3:35am and I am stressed about a phone call that I need to participate in tomorrow. It is going to be a discussion about my academic future with my advisor and is pretty loaded for me. I need to have my wits about me. That makes me even more nervous. In the past few months, someone I spoke with before a similar conversation gave me the simplest advice - he said "don't be nervous!". Its one of those moments that I am going to try and hang on to, because as simple as the advice was, it was what I needed to hear right then.
I am listening to Frou Frou's Only Got One as I write this. Just had a moment of blissful daydreaming induced due to the soothing music. I have had some of those while I am driving. Ever been frightened by the general direction your thoughts take? I am not frightened yet, but I am worried. Its like the statistical phenomena with the 1000 coin tosses with a single coin, once a trend begins, it generally strengthens.
Ever feel like you should have already found what you were chasing? I keep thinking, what exactly am I running after? Some days I feel that the answer is in my system somewhere and it calms me down; other days I hit some sort of frenzy crescendo in my panic about existential questions and it eats at me. I am also worrying a lot about energy consumption these days and am really considering switching off my binary clock, which consumes a lot of electricity and my toothbrush charger, although the latter I am more reluctant to pull the plug for. Also worrying about oil consumption - my drives may be killing the earth, just a little. Also worrying about my bank balance.
Its been so long now since I had a conversation with someone where I exchanged woes and worries and felt better for having shared. Most of my conversations tend to be a little superficial these days, I think everybody is playing it safe now. Wearing your heart on your sleeve just doesn't seem to be quite as fashionable these days. Maybe I have some growing up to do. Actually, fuck growing up. I have seen what grown ups of my age think. I think achievements etc. are important, but I think being happy and having fun is the most important thing. Life is too short! Screw everyone who makes me feel bad about myself for not having achieved as much as them, I am happy in mediocre nonentitydom. It suits me!
Fuck!

can't read this without smiling....
Sometimes I lie awake at night, and I ask, "Where have I gone wrong?"/ Then a voice says to me, "This is going to take more than one night."

spinning a yarn.. and spinning it good!! :)
ok, so a few months ago i started a literary project on this blog... one that was sadly neglected with the passage of time... its time to revive the old storytelling blog post again.. except this time, its a new story...
(if you are wondering what the hell i'm talking about, look here)
here goes...
5th november
There once was a little girl named Maxine. Her parents had named her after the diabolical character of the same name in the movie Being John Malkovich - Maxine's parents had a taste for esoteric movies and concepts.
Maxine had an extremely active mind that pondered a vast variety of questions. Her musings ranged from wondering how the telephone exchange worked to wondering how the current education system was so vastly different from Newton's times, or Coulomb's times and how perhaps our current education system was stifling any alternate thought processes or perspectives that children / grownups these days had to offer. Had Maxine been a grown up, perhaps her friends would have told her that she thought too much.

for the record,i'm not a coconut..
ok, so i am back to substituting the blog for a real human being. its hard to talk to people these days, either they are busy or i feel like i am being a super needy leech in wanting to talk to them - whatever!
anyway, i was trawling the web for info. about a certain visa (the campaign to not be deported is still going super strong! - if you know of any job openings, let me know!!) when i came across a website whose forum was basically dominated by indians - not that there is anything wrong with it. i just have this weird love-hate relationship with my compatriots that is too complex to analyze - i just accept that i feel the way i do about certain things and certain people - what can one do?
the website reminded me of a comment one of my systems and controls professor had made in class, which i found simultaneously hilarious and incredibly offensive! my professor, a hardened, WHITE, bush-hating republican, vietnam vet was talking about the other class that he was teaching, and he said.. "there's like a hundred indians in 3085" ....... .... ....
the only other indian in the class and i looked at each other - both unsure of exactly what our reaction to this statement was supposed to be - i made up my mind first and started to guffaw like nobody's business - the other dude just looked a little huffy and left class...
i miss dorsey! he actually thought i had potential and i loved his crazy outlook! goddamn i hope my campaign is successful!!
i don't want to give up on mr. darcy yet!

idle ruminations... (cloud atlas style)
1. today i google-chatter with a friend from my high school days for a good two hours. she t9ld me of some of her sorrows and i told her of some of mine. i remember in school we'd go for long walks and talk about music, people, books and ideas. i love a great conversation!
2. which brings me to the other thought - i read the article posted at the following site:
http://www.wikihow.com/Guess-Someone%27s-Astrological-Sign
i'm aquarian. i don't seriously believe in astrology - i find it amusing - especially when they say something that's true about me. in the article they said aquarians love words - and its true, i love words! but i am not a doer or a worker - and it bothered me!!!
3. something else that bothers me - youtube being bought out by google. first of all, the press coverage that this deal is receiving is something phenomenal. all the pundits are speculating about the future of the online community based media sharing/broadcasting. i guess a lot of money is being invested based on these speculations - but honestly, doesn't everyone see where the net is finally going to progress? hasn't the medusa phenomenon taught the riaa etc. a lesson about the unwieldiness of the ether?
secondly, i am really starting to get concerned with google's growing ambitions. i *love* their products, but i have always been a firm believer in a free market where there are multiple companies vying for the marketshare. it bothers me immensely that one company is gathering so much precious momentum.
4. speaking of momentum - my life is in a weird phase where it is gathering some in some aspects of my life just as it is losing some in some other areas. sayonara pay cheque. hello unemployment! hello existential conundrums! hello more free time than i know what to do with! hello deportment? hello job that will let me stay in the country?
5. i have an interview coming up.
4. the job may just let me stay in this country. sure i have questions to answer, but a lifetime to follow the trail to see where it leads!
3. time will tell, inevitably, what is going to happen to youtube. i hope they don't link the youtube and google accounts up. it freaks me out that google keeps a history of the searches. shit! isn't this blog server run by the ubiquitous G?
2. speaking of ubiquitous, sure some people see signs everywhere and in everything. and some people swear by zodiac considerations. however, i think a balanced perspective is imperative to absorbing the zodiac stuff into one's life. i can't start smooching random people on wednesdays and tuesdays because my horoscope for the day says so. (it really does! check it out @: http://astrology.yahoo.com/astrology/general/weekly/aquarius )
(this link is for the week of oct. 9th)
omg! i just read my romantic horoscope for the month! the person who wrote it must have been extremely hungry. the gastonomical slant to the article hits you like a train going at 400mph would! (http://astrology.yahoo.com/astrology/love/monthly/aquarius) rofl lmao!
gee! i hope some of that is true, i could do with a little distraction in life - after all, i'm supposed to be the hot potato at the salad bar! :P
1. i used to eat hot potatoes at the salad bar in india with my friend. (ok, so this link is kind of contrived - its almost time to go to bed and i am really getting tired of this crap! :P) also, the last statement is false, i have not seen a single salad bar in india - nor have i therefore eaten an hot potatoes at the salad bar with my friend. but i did eat a lot of other truly delicious food with her. i miss the food! haven't been to the indian restaurant in charleston - just hate the thought of going alone! stupid monthly romance horoscope.. given me the munchies!! :P
night!
